On August 20, Gov. Abbott officially signed Senate Bill 33, strengthening Texas' pro-life policies by prohibiting public funds from being used to support abortion-related activities, including logistical assistance for abortions, such as travel, lodging, meals, or childcare for women seeking out-of-state abortions.
"In Texas, we support mothers and their children," Abbott said at the ceremonial signing. "I am also proud to sign a law to ban taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. Texas is a pro-life and pro-family state. With these laws, we will stay that way."
The bill passed the Texas Senate on April 16 and will take effect on September 1. The legislation amends the Texas Government Code to prohibit state and local government entities, such as municipalities and counties, from using taxpayer money to fund abortion providers or "abortion assistance entities."...
