Illegal Alien Abrego Garcia Back in ICE Custody [Video]"He's going to leave this country in the very near future and his family can go with him." -Border Czar Tom Homan
"Today, ICE law enforcement arrested Kilmar Abrego Garcia and are processing him for deportation," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X Monday morning. "President [Donald] Trump is not going to allow this illegal alien, who is an MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, serial domestic abuser, and child predator to terrorize American citizens any longer," Noem said. Abrego Garcia was living in Maryland until the Trump administration deported him to El Salvador in March. The Trump administration initially said he was removed due to an "administrative error," but later pushed back against that claim. After a legal battle and outcry from Democrats, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-MD, traveling to El Salvador to meet with Abrego Garcia and demand his release, the illegal alien was brought back to the US in June after a court ordered the Trump administration to "facilitate" his return. Abrego Garcia was released from criminal custody in Tennessee on Friday and returned to Maryland. On Sunday, Van Hollen met virtually with Abrego Garcia and his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, to "welcome" the illegal alien back to Maryland. Now, Abrego Garcia "is being processed for removal to Uganda," according to DHS. Van Hollen says he remains committed to working to prevent Abrego Garcia's removal. "Trump's cronies continue to lie about the facts in his case and they are engaged in a malicious abuse of power as they threaten to deport him to Uganda—to block his chance to defend himself against the new charges they brought," Van Hollen said. "As I told Kilmar and his wife Jennifer, we will stay in this fight for justice and due process because if his rights are denied, the rights of everyone else are put at risk." A March 2019 report from DHS reports that Abrego Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador and crossed into the US illegally near McAllen, Texas, in March 2012. The same DHS form states that "Abrego Garcia was validated as a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) Gang." In 2021, Abrego Garcia's wife filed domestic violence allegations against her husband. During a traffic stop in Tennessee in November 2022, authorities suspected Abrego Garcia of human smuggling. Abrego Garcia was driving a vehicle with eight additional men in the car. He claimed they were traveling for work, but there was no luggage in the vehicle. Abrego Garcia is "absolutely going to be deported," border czar Tom Homan told Fox News in an interview over the weekend. "He's going to leave this country in the very near future and his family can go with him," Homan said.
