EPA Touts 100-Item List of Accomplishments in Trump's First 100 DaysAnother item on the list is "issued immediate action items for Mexico to permanently end the Tijuana River sewage crisis." Zeldin flew this month to San Diego, where he demanded that Mexico cease emptying sewage into the Tijuana River, which flows into the United States.
"These are just a fraction of the environmental actions we have taken in the first 100 days. Our team at EPA is honored and motivated to fight for you and deliver results," reads the EPA release. The list includes such actions as expediting the cleanup of a nuclear-waste landfill in Missouri, completing the "largest wildfire response in agency history in Los Angeles," and completing "FEMA mission assignments in Western Northern Carolina after Hurricane Helene and [in] Kentucky following flooding." The EPA, established in 1970 under President Richard Nixon, plays a major role in environmental stewardship.
Zeldin has also taken part in Department of Government Efficiency-style cost reductions while at the EPA, presiding over staff reduction and the cancellation of grants deemed unnecessary by the agency. "I have a duty to make sure that we don't light on fire billions of dollars in tax dollars," Zeldin told reporters at an April 21 press briefing. "And I, as administrator of EPA, am not going to stand before any member of the media and get bullied into lighting billions of dollars on fire." The agency also boasts of managing "post-disaster hazardous-materials spills in Ohio and North Carolina." A former senator from Ohio, Vice President JD Vance has repeatedly called attention to a 2023 chemical spill caused by a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio—a disaster said to have caused deaths and illness years after the fact. Another item on the list is "issued immediate action items for Mexico to permanently end the Tijuana River sewage crisis." Zeldin flew this month to San Diego, where he demanded that Mexico cease emptying sewage into the Tijuana River, which flows into the United States.
