In the face of such widespread devastation, the federal government's response has been alarmingly inadequate. On Monday, Joe Biden announced a federal commitment to support recovery efforts in California. Speaking during a briefing with Kamala Harris and emergency officials, Biden vowed that the federal government will cover 100% of disaster response costs for the next six months. "And I want to be clear, we're not waiting until those fires are over to start helping the victims," Biden announced. "We're getting them help right now, as you all know." "People impacted by these fires are going to receive a one-time payment of $770, one-time payment, so they can quickly purchase things like water, baby formula, and prescriptions.
