The files were deleted mere days before Republicans gained control of the House and, subsequently, began their own investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, Fox News reported on Monday:

"EXCLUSIVE: "The former House Select Committee on Jan. 6 deleted more than 100 encrypted files from its probe just days before Republicans took over the majority in the House of Representatives, Fox News Digital has learned."

....

"The House Administration Committee's Oversight Subcommittee is leading an investigation into Jan. 6, 2021, led by Chairman Barry Loudermilk, R-GA The panel is investigating the security failures on that day, as well as the "actions" of the former select committee investigating the Capitol riot."

House rules required the Democrats to turn over all files of the former Jan. 6 committee, but they deleted 117 files (about half of them) before doing so.

A digital forensics team employed by the new, GOP-led, committee successfully recovered all 117 deleted and encrypted files – but, the files are password-protected.

Chairman Loudermilk is demanding Democrat former Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) provide the passwords needed to examine the recovered files, according to a letter obtained by Fox News.

The letter requires sets a deadline of Tuesday, January 24, 2024 for Thompson to provide the passwords.

It's obvious that Democrats have gone "to great lengths" to destroy evidence and obstruct his committee's investigation of what really led up to, and happened at, the Jan. 6 invasion of the Capitol.

Chairman Loudermilk has vowed to use his authority to find out what's in the 117 files the Democrats' violated House rules by deleting and to "get to the truth."
