Dr. Katherine Koonce, head of school at The Covenant School, was among those murdered, but the steps she took that morning and before are credited with helping save lives.

Nashville City Councilman Russ Pulley told Fox News Koonce was in a virtual meeting when the shooting began and that she immediately got off the meeting and "headed straight for the shooter."

"Dr. Koonce, upon hearing the first shots, ran toward the danger," Pulley also wrote in a Facebook post.

Koonce had reportedly also prepared the school staff well before the event with the appropriate active-shooter training, equipping them for the unthinkable.

"She did what principals and headmasters do; she protected her children," Pulley told Fox. "In addition, she prepared the school by seeking advanced-level, active-shooter training, and from witnesses at the scene, this protocol—details of which I cannot provide—saved countless lives"...
