Chargers' Kicker Hits Winning Field Goal, Thanks God, Says He Would've Still Felt Blessed, Even if He Had Missed It

Craig Bannister : Oct 21, 2022  CNS News

"I knew He's working for our good in all things, and I was trusting that." -Dustin Hopkins, LA Chargers

[CNSNews.com] After hitting the winning kick despite an injured leg in Monday's NFL game, Los Angeles Chargers Kicker Dustin Hopkins thanked God—and added that he would've still felt blessed, even if he had missed the kick. (Screengrab image)

In a post-game interview after he hit a 39-yard field goal in overtime to give the Chargers a 19-16 win over the Denver Broncos, Hopkins was asked how he was able to hit all four of his kicks, even though he was in such pain that he collapsed each time.

Hopkins didn't answer until he had first thanked God:

"Before I directly answer that, I just want to say 'Thank You,' to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

"I've got so much to be thankful for, apart from football," Hopkins said. And, while success feels better than failure, Hopkins said he would've felt blessed, regardless of the outcome:

"And so, when something like this happens, I'm blessed, either way. But, to be on the good side of that, is obviously, it feels a lot better. But, yeah, I was hurting pretty good."

Indeed, Hopkins has also experienced misfortune. When he became unemployed in mid-season last year, he continued to have faith in God's plan for him and his family.

In an interview in July of this year, before the NFL season had begun, Hopkins discussed the experience of being let go last year by the league's Washington football team.

"Man, even in my firing or being let go, I felt like God was super-gracious in the timing that happened," Hopkins recalled:

"You're not happy after you get let go, but I had a calm feeling about, like, 'Hey, wherever we're supposed to be, we'll be.' I just trusted that the Lord would bring us somewhere."

"I knew He's working for our good in all things, and I was trusting that," Hopkins said. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
