On the evening of April 13, on Junin Street, in the town of Guadalupe, La Libertad, Peru, a young boy stepped out of his house to pray earnestly to God. He was on his knees in the middle of an empty street, praying for the end of this global pandemic.

Prayer chain

Claudia Alejandra explained that their neighborhood decided to participate in a prayer chain every night during the community quarantine. People went out of their houses to light candles and pray while observing social distancing.

"Today in the neighborhood we join together to pray and ask God for a solution for the emergency situation we are experiencing, to share hope and faith," Claudia wrote in a Facebook post.

On his knees in an empty street

That is when the photographer captured the photo of the 6-year-old Alen Castaneda Zelada who had decided to go out to the street and pray to God. The young boy explained that he decided to do so because of his love for his grandparents whom he has not seen since the community quarantine started.

"(I) pray that (God) will take care of those who have this disease. I'm asking that no one go out, many elderly people are dying from this disease," Alen said.

The little boy's father also made it clear that his son went out of their house for a moment to pray because of the noise in their house. It was on the empty and silent street that he could pray earnestly to God.

"My son is a little boy of six and I didn't think he would react like this. It has been a surprise for all of us," he said.

Child-like faith
