Christian Film 'I Still Believe' Hits No. 2 at Box Office Opening WeekendThe movie is named after [Jeremy] Camp's hit song "I Still Believe," which he wrote after his wife died in 2001, just months after their wedding.
The film made $9.5 million, coming behind Disney's "Onward" at $60.3 million, Deadline reports. Movie theater attendance hit a 40-year low this weekend as 109 theaters closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to IndieWire. The Lionsgate faith-based film features the story of Christian singer Jeremy Camp's first marriage. The movie follows Camp as he meets Melissa Lynn Henning. The two decide to marry despite knowing that Henning has ovarian cancer. The movie is named after Camp's hit song "I Still Believe," which he wrote after his wife died in 2001, just months after their wedding. Charisma News previously reported that K.J. Apa, who plays Camp in the film, recently told hosts on The View that he believes God "really anointed" I Still Believe. "This story itself I think is so powerful," he said. "It's a story about, ultimately, love and two people who love each other so dearly and are willing to go through everything with each other no matter what that is or what that looks like. As soon as I read that first script, and I spoke to the Erwin brothers about it, I was pretty terrified of the story, just because it was a huge responsibility to play a real-life person, and I wanted to get it right and honor everyone in the film. I feel like God really anointed this film, and I've never been so proud of anything in my entire life." Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
