Justin and Hailey Bieber Bare Their Souls in Interview about Their Marriage

Emily Jones : Feb 12, 2019  CBN News

"I've struggled with the feeling that people are using me or aren't really there for me, and that writers are looking to get something out of me and then use it against me. One of the big things for me is trusting myself. I've made some bad decisions personally, and in relationships. Those mistakes have affected my confidence in my judgment. It's been difficult for me even to trust Hailey." -Justin Bieber

(New York, NY)—[CBN News] Justin and Hailey Bieber are opening up about their passionate but challenging journey of marriage in the latest edition of Vogue magazine. (Screengrab image: via Instagram)

Justin shared that the couple was committed to remaining celibate until their marriage, and he now believes God has blessed them because of it.

Justin said God "doesn't ask us not to have sex for Him because He wants rules and stuff. He's just trying to protect you from hurt and pain."

The Biebers also shared they are working hard to overcome any new marital challenges by seeking counseling recommended by their pastor and good friend Judah Smith.

"The thing is, marriage is very hard. We're really young and that's a scary aspect. We're going to change a lot. But we're committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes," Justin said.

Bieber admitted that he struggled with depression due to the enormous amount of fame he achieved at such a young age. He's learning to deal with that in his new marriage.

"I've struggled with the feeling that people are using me or aren't really there for me, and that writers are looking to get something out of me and then use it against me. One of the big things for me is trusting myself. I've made some bad decisions personally, and in relationships. Those mistakes have affected my confidence in my judgment. It's been difficult for me even to trust Hailey."

Hailey confessed that she struggles to be emotionally available with Justin.

"He'll say, 'I feel,' and I'll say, 'I think,'" she explained. "I have to really dive deep and struggle to be in touch with my emotions. He gets there immediately."

Hailey and Justin have known each other for 10 years and even attended Hillsong New York together. The couple dated three years ago but their relationship was rocky. It all came to a head when something seriously threatened their future together. They hinted to Vogue that a betrayal had occurred.

"Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through," Hailey said. "Fizzled would not be the right word—it was more like a very dramatic excommunication. There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out."

In June 2018, they rekindled their relationship after running into each other at a church conference hosted by Vous Church pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr.

"The common denominator, I promise you, is always church. By then, we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, 'We're not going to be friends.' I was like, 'We're not?'" Hailey said.

Weeks later, they were engaged.

"I prayed to feel peace about the decision, and that's where I landed," Hailey explained. "I love him very much. I have loved him for a long time."

It wasn't long until the two were married in a New York courthouse.

When Justin announced their engagement last July, he vowed to keep God at the center of their relationship.

"I promise to lead our family with honor and integrity letting Jesus through His Holy Spirit guide us in everything we do and every decision we make," he wrote in an Instagram post, adding a quote from Proverbs 18:22.

"'He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains FAVOR from the Lord!' This is the year of favor!!!!" he said.

Hailey, who has also been in the spotlight for years, is unashamed of her faith and vows to never hide it.

"I think that God kind of put me in the place in my life to not be quiet about it, not be quiet about Him, but to reach people and to inspire people," she told Teen Vogue in a 2016 interview. Subscribe for free to Breaking Christian News here
