They don't care about the complete lack of evidence that the house party even happened, let alone that Kavanaugh tried to rape her at one. They don't care about the holes and inconsistencies in Ford's various retellings. They don't care that decades' worth of friends, fellow lawyers and judges, law clerks, and FBI background investigators never found the slightest hint that Kavanaugh was a secret sex predator.

The conduct of Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee [last week]—from Dianne Feinstein's sitting on the allegation until it would do the most damage rather than vetting it in a timely and discreet fashion, to Chris Coons suggesting Kavanaugh's case for his innocence lacked "credibility" because his earlier judicial answers "struck me as evasive or not credible"—made that clear.

Or consider all the talking heads in lefty circles running with the talking point that Kavanaugh's anger at being maligned as an attempted rapist somehow demonstrates, all on its own, that he's a violent misogynist capable of sexual assault. In a demented New York Magazine piece I can only assume was trying to be as hypocritical and self-unaware as possible, Jonathan Chait calls Kavanaugh—the target of one of the most inflammatory accusations possible—"consumed with paranoid, partisan rage" that "convinced me that he's guilty."

Oh, and in the very same paragraph, Chait chided Kavanaugh for not recognizing "the possibility that Democrats actually believe the women accusing him of sexual assault." Translation: liberals don't need evidence because they can read Kavanaugh's mind, but the guy who knows whether or not he assaulted anyone has to give his tormentors' motives unconditional benefit of the doubt.

"This whole two-week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election," Kavanaugh himself said Thursday. "Fear that has been unfairly stoked about my judicial record, revenge on behalf of the Clintons, and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups." He's absolutely right, but his list is missing one thing: abortion.

As LifeSiteNews covered earlier this week, Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii said outright she was "put[ting] his denial in the context of everything that I know about him in terms of how he approaches his cases," particularly the fact that "he very much is against women's reproductive choice."

There it is: if the Left thinks you pose a threat to Roe v. Wade, basic standards of evidence, fairness, and due process (which isn't legally binding on appointment confirmations, but was widely accepted as a moral guide until five minutes ago) get thrown out the window.
