Alert: The E. Coli Outbreak that Sickened Bethel Worship Leader's Children is Happening Throughout the U.S. and Canada; Romaine Lettuce May Be to BlameConsumer Reports notes that washing lettuce will not remove all the E. Coli if it is infected with it, as the bacteria can actually penetrate the leaves. They recommend avoiding romaine lettuce completely even though the CDC hasn't definitively found it to be the source in the U.S.
Thankfully, little Jaxon and his sister Addie are reportedly doing much better, though not yet ‘out of the woods,' according to a CBN News report. Yesterday, NBC News, along with other media reported outbreaks of the same E. coli bacteria throughout the U.S. as well as Canada. A Dec. 28th statement by the CDC identified romaine lettuce as the Canadian source of the outbreak... "In the United States," said the statement, "state and local public health officials are interviewing sick people to determine what they ate in the week before their illness started. CDC is still collecting information to determine whether there is a food item in common among sick people, including leafy greens and romaine." Consumer Reports notes that washing lettuce will not remove E. Coli if it is infected with it, as the bacteria can actually penetrate the leaves. They recommend avoiding romaine lettuce completely even though the CDC hasn't definitively found it to be the source in the U.S. Officials state those most at risk are the very young, very old and those with compromised immune systems.
